What to Look for in a Son-in-Law

When I think of my son-in-law Matt many things come to mind.  He brought a new dimension to our family as he is very fond of sports. Whenever we played Trivia Pursuit everyone wanted Matt on their team to answer the sports questions. He would talk sports teams I had never heard of and knew the main players. His current sport is biking. He has been in races in several states and also rides for his own exercise and enjoyment.

Here is a little history on my son-in-law. When my daughter brought this tall good looking blond headed young man named Matt home for us to meet we knew he was the one! We observed how he treated our daughter with respect. He spoke kindly of his mother and was also very polite and thoughtful towards my husband and me. 

Matt and Shana met at a Junior College in a English Literature class and their first date was attending a Romeo and Juliet play that was part of their assignment.  They dated for a year and a half and married while Matt was still at Oral Roberts University. They just celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary.

He was raised in a Christian home along with five siblings. His parents taught him character qualities, the importance of family and good work ethics.   When he asked my husband for permission to marry Shana we had a peace in our hearts that he would love, protect, and cherish her.  He has definitely done all of those things.  As parents you want to be able to go to bed each night and not be concerned about the welfare of your daughter. We know we put her in good hands with our son-in-law. We are so glad Matt is part of our family!
