Seize the Day

The title of this blog comes from a book by Joyce Meyer, "Seize the Day." I have a ladies Bible study and we are discussing this
book and putting into practice the things we are learning.

Joyce said she realized that she had already lived more of her life than what she had left and she was determined to live on purpose and make every day count. Psalm 39:4 - "Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered - how fleeting my life is."

If you are struggling with having more to do than time to do it this book and blog is for you!!

I have a multi-generational ladies group and each of them has wanted to get organized but didn't quite know-how. This book helped us not only learn about the organization but accountability to one another.

Each meeting we read a chapter and then each ladies decides what project they want to tackle. We have had some wonderful reports about their progress. Here are a few "seize the day" reports!

Lady #1 - She sorted through years of paperwork, tax returns, receipts, bank statements, and many other categories. She then hired a shredding company to send a truck to her home and she was able to watch them shred all the years of paperwork she no longer needed. Then she tackled her clothes closets and donated about half of her wardrobe to Goodwill.

Lady #2 - She decided to sort through books, cassette tapes, Cd's, etc and gave many of the books to the library, threw away cassette tapes, and still reviewing her Cd's. She then tackled her kitchen and gave away many serving dishes, pots & pans, and utensils she no longer used.

Lady #3 - She raised 10 children so she didn't have a lot of time to organize. She wanted to start small and said her first project was to clean off her desk, then sorted jewelry, now moving on to packing up boxes of her children's items that they left behind when the moved out.

Lady #4 - She wanted to de-clutter a spare room so her adult married children would have a bedroom to stay in when they visit from out of state. Her next project was taking all her home school books to a resale shop that specialized in this type of books. Next, she sorted clothes and gave many of them away. She wanted to start back on her scrap-booking and was able to bring two completed scrapbooks to the meeting and showed us her success.

Lady #5 - She struggles with shopping for bargains and has accumulated a lot of stuff. She was able to keep herself from buying Christmas clearance items this past holiday season. That was a huge breakthrough for her. She is now tackling her pantry.

Lady #6 - She wanted to organize her scrapbook room and closet so scrapbook items would be more accessible. Her husband measured the space and then he bought and assembled some shelving so now the items are easily accessible. She also had him bring in a table that was in storage to give her a permanent workspace. That way she can leave things on the table and scrapbook when she has 20 minutes or an hour or more. Last week she had completed a scrapbook of 3 generations on her husband's side of the family. She showed it to the ladies at the meeting.

Lady #7 - Her son was engaged and the wedding was close at hand and she wanted to make them a wedding quilt. We all agreed with her for this gift to be on time.

These ladies are learning how to not waste time, get their priorities in order, begin to take charge of their day, and accomplish projects that seemed out of their reach 6 months ago.
