How to Age Gracefully

I was recently with a family member that was having some tests. As I was in the waiting room I read a newspaper article titled, "What is Wellness?" Here are a few excerpts from that article:

Emotional Wellness - It is more than just handling stress it includes feeling positive and enthusiastic about your life. It is to approach life with an optimistic mindset and attitude.

Intellectual Wellness - The ability to pursue lifelong learning. To be involved in intellectually-stimulating activities. Some of the suggestions were taking a class, journaling, learning a new hobby.

Physical Wellness - The ability to maintain a healthy quality of life that allows you to get through your daily activities without undue fatigue and physical stress. Lifestyle choices that include healthy eating, exercise, sufficient sleep, and managing stress.

Occupational Wellness - To receive personal satisfaction and fulfillment from your job or volunteer work. It can enhance your attitude, confidence, and deepen your sense of purpose.

Social Wellness - The ability to interact with and relate to those around you. Forging deep and meaningful relationships, respecting others, and creating a foundational support system.

Spiritual Wellness - Living with meaning and purpose is key to feelings of well-being. To be involved in a faith-based church and groups activities.
I have been in the retirement mode for six months and my husband for 2 years. We are so different and yet compliment each other. Recently my daughter said,  "dad is recharged by time alone and you are recharge by time with others."  But even though we are different personalities we have learned to be aware of the other person's needs. There are times I just give him that quality quiet environment and other times I encourage him to do more with others. It works for us and I believe we are aging gracefully!
