Scrapbooking is Good for the Soul

Last year I taught a scrapbook class at a senior event. All the ladies and one man had to bring their photos and album. I provided the tools, paper, and embellishments.

It was a wonderful time of being able to share with one another the people, event, or trip they were wanting to scrapbook.

One lady did a scrapbook of her grandson who died in his teen years. She shared with the group all the good memories of this young man.  She cried and we cried with her. We prayed for her that grief would be lifted off of her and she said she felt the prayers helped.

Another lady did a scrapbook of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. While she was sorting her pictures she told us about her son being in a car accident and dying. She said she would never have pictures of any of his children. We once again came around that lady and prayed for her and comforted her.

One lady brought all her pictures of a month-long trip through Europe. We all enjoyed her travel log on all the wonderful places she visited. I never would have thought of this lady as being that adventurous. Scrapbooks can show a completely different side of a person.

A quietly spoken man who attended the class wanted to scrapbook the photo album of his parents who were true cowboys!  It was a wonderful idea but they had glued all the pictures on the pages. I advised him to enjoy the photos and not take a chance of damaging them. He used that time to reminisce and tell his story over and over to several of the seniors.

I am so glad we had that class and doing those scrapbooks was truly good for the soul of those who attended.
