Father Knows Best

There was a popular television show from 1954- 1960 called "Father Knows Best."  It portrayed a wise family man, Jim Anderson, his common-sense wife Margaret, and their children Betty, Bud, and Kathy.  Whenever the kids need advice on anything at all, they can always turn to their father because father knows best.  If they listened to their father's advice, it kept them out of trouble and life was a whole lot better.

Father Knows Best TV Cast
I thought about that TV show a couple weeks ago when I heard a pastor who was speaking at our annual Word Explosion conference.  Before he spoke he sang a song, "Trust Him."  It had a gospel flair which isn't my favorite style of music but when I really listened to the lyrics of the song I began to weep and asked myself, "how much of my life am I really trusting to God?"  If I really believe that my heavenly Father knows best I should be trusting Him in all things.  I find it easy to trust God for my eternal life but the area I need to work on is trusting Him for my day to day life. It is easy to just give God the impression that we have things covered when in reality we don't.
Here is what trust means:
  • Reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety of a person or thing.
  • Confident expectation of something, hope.
  • A person on whom one relies.
I found that every time I opened the Bible for about a week I would have scriptures on trust that seem to be in bold letters just for me.  So I began to look up trust scriptures in Psalms and found wonderful promises for those who trust in God.

God's Word is what will guide and direct my life
Psalm 33:20-22 - "Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield.  For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy name.  Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, just as we hope in You."

Psalm 9:10 - "And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; for You, Lord have not forsaken those who seek you."

Psalm 18:2 - "The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust.  My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold."

Psalm 18:30 - "As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him."

Psalm 26:1 - "Vindicate me, O Lord, for I have walked in my integrity.  I have also trusted in the Lord; I shall not slip."

Psalm 28:7 - "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped.  Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song, I will praise Him."

Psalm 32:10 - "But he who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him."

Psalm 31:1 - "In You, O Lord, I put my trust; let me never be ashamed; deliver me in Your righteousness."

From these scriptures we learn that if we trust God He will not forsake us, He will be our shield and stronghold, He will not let us slip, He will help us, His mercy will surround us, and we will not be ashamed.  This is just a few of His wonderful promises for trusting.

I believe my testimony and these scriptures will help you become more trusting when it comes to your relationship with your heavenly Father.

So true!
