My Newest Grandson, Little Big Guy

We thought our daughters were through having children when about a year ago my oldest daughter Shana came over and told us she had a present for us. When she said she was going to have another baby I was actually speechless, which has not happened very many times in my life! Nine months later she gives birth to a 9lb 13oz baby boy name Finnley William.

As with all my grandchildren, when I saw him it was love at first sight. He is such a good natured baby and loves to smile and coo.

This is Matt and Shana's fourth son and she was so content with knowing they were going to be raising another boy. She feels that part of her purpose is to raise godly young men.

Little Big Guy

There is a story that I have always loved about the the power of prayer. This is a true story of a teenage boy, who several years ago, met Christ as his Savior and began growing rapidly as a Christian. He was given a Bible with his first name, Sam, stamped on the cover and he consistently wrote notes and remarks in its margins as he read it. Upon returning from several days of backpacking in the mountains of Southern Oregon, Sam discovered his Bible was missing. He realized that retracing his steps to find it would be impossible. Eventually, it was forgotten. Five years later, Sam - now out of college - was seriously dating a Christian young woman in North San Diego County. One Saturday, he was at her parent's home helping them move, when upon lifting one box of books, one book fell out and flipped on the floor. To Sam's utter amazement there laid his Bible. It seemed this family had found it along a trail while camping years earlier in Southern Oregon. Finding no identification but the name "Sam" on the cover, they had kept it because the father and mother were so impressed with the spiritual hunger and insight which was reflected in the notes and the comments written in its margins. Their prayers over the years had been, "God, please send a man who loves You like Sam to marry our daughter." Well God did something even better, He actually sent Sam to that family!

I believe there are parents of daughters out there praying for godly husbands for their daughters and my children are raising their sons to be an answer to prayer to those families.

Here is a recent picture of Shana's four sons and her husband Matt.
